About this race
Citylauf Kaiserslautern is a road race held on a summer Sunday, running through the pedestrian zone of Kaiserslautern, Germany. The downtown area is dedicated to the Hornbach-Citylauf for the day, with approximately 1,000 participants, from kindergarten children to experienced adults, competing on a single, compact city circuit. The event is organized by 1. FC Kaiserslautern and follows a straightforward format: a 1 km loop, run multiple times depending on age group, followed by a final 5 km public race consisting of five laps.
The schedule includes seven starts. Children and teenagers compete in races of one to three kilometers, while kindergarten children have their own 450-meter course. The short loop benefits spectators as runners pass by repeatedly instead of going off on a long route. Participants who pre-register receive a T-shirt with the race logo, and all finishers are awarded a medal specific to the event. The competition includes more than just local runners; regional elite athletes compete alongside international top runners in invitation races. Past participants have included Irina Mikitenko, Katrin Dörre-Heinig, and Carsten Eich.
