The 7-Meilen-Trail is a forest trail race held in Kaiserslautern, Germany, within the Kaiserslauterer Wald in late September. The longer route involves approximately 340 meters of elevation gain, and the shorter route includes about 130 meters. Both routes offer genuine off-road running, distinct from flat park circuits. The racecourse consists of forest paths, with no asphalt used. The start and finish lines are located across from Restaurant Sommerhaus. Registration takes place at the TSG Kaiserslautern clubhouse. The running department of TSG Kaiserslautern is the organizing body. The event is also part of the Laufladen-Cup series, providing local runners with an additional incentive to participate.

Holzland-Volkslauf Schopp

The Holzland-Volkslauf Schopp is a running event held in Schopp, a village within Germany's Kaiserslautern district, situated near the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord Biosphere Reserve. The races commence in the morning from the sports field at Eichwaldstadion, offering 10 km and 3 km routes, alongside a Nordic Walking option. This variety caters to both runners and walkers, not exclusively competitive road racers. SV Schopp is the organizing body for this event, which originated in 1972. The race takes place in the Palatinate Holzland region. The Moosalb stream runs to the west of the village, and the Hirschalbe stream forms the southern boundary towards Geiselberg. Schopp also covers the residential areas of Finsterbrunnertal and Pulvermuhle. Registration is managed via the organizer's website, with past results, start lists, and photographs made available to participants post-event.

Silvester-Strassenlauf Kottweiler-Schwanden

Silvester-Strassenlauf Kottweiler-Schwanden is a 10 km street race held in Kottweiler-Schwanden, Germany, on New Year's Eve. It begins in the afternoon on Reichenbacherstrasse and is organized by SV Kottweiler-Schwanden. The race originated in 1973, establishing it as a long-standing local event. The setting is a small municipality in Rhineland-Palatinate, part of the Verbandsgemeinde Ramstein-Miesenbach. Kottweiler-Schwanden is the smallest community within this union by population and area. The village is situated in the Nordpfalzer Bergland, with the Schwanderbach flowing through it and the Miesenbach originating in the eastern section. The 362-meter Hebelhuebel is also nearby. Although listed as an international street run, its size and location lend it a village-race atmosphere: a year-end 10K on local roads, closely connected to the organizing club and the community.

About cycling & running in Kaiserslautern

Kaiserslautern Training Notes

Running: Kaiserslautern puts runners right on the edge of the Palatinate Forest. Locals use the signposted forest routes near the university and Bremerhof for base miles, Z2, and hilly steady work. Bremerhof has an information board at the parking lot, and Vogelwoog and Volkspark keep easy runs close to town. UniSport gives runners an outdoor track with free parking and toilets. 1. FC Kaiserslautern - Running brings the serious club feel, with tempo training, relaxed runs, and Sunday long runs from 15 to 22 km. Citylauf Kaiserslautern, 7-MEILEN-TRAIL, B2Run Kaiserslautern, and Lautrer Lebenslauf anchor the calendar.

Cycling: Kaiserslautern gives riders trails pretty much everywhere outside the city. Locals roll the Lauter Radweg when they want 40 km along the valley between Kaiserslautern and Lauterecken. The Pfalzerland Radweg follows a quiet green valley, and the Barabarossa Radweg leads back toward Kaiserslautern. Hammerwoog works for an easy spin with a snack stop, and Katzweiler gives that cold wassertretbecken stop beside the bike trail. Pfälzerwald-Verein sits in the local outdoor scene. The Palatinate Forest south of town holds the climbs, with abwechslungsreiche, wellige Strecken im Pfälzer Wald instead of flat crit miles.

Season: Kaiserslautern has a moderate climate with enough rain through the year, so locals keep both running shoes and bikes in rotation. Summer gives long forest evenings, track intervals at Schulzentrum Süd, and steady rides under the trees. The temperature hit 2°C on 16 September 2020, so smart days start early or stay shaded near Bremerhof, Vogelwoog, and the Palatinate Forest. Winter shifts the mood rather than ending training. Runners use relaxed club laps, long runs, Weihnachtsmarktlauf, Oberrodenbacher Silvesterlauf, and Silvester-Strassenlauf Kottweiler-Schwanden. Riders keep Z2 simple on the valleys and save the rougher singletrack feel for better footing.
