24. Röntgenlauf

The Röntgenlauf is a landscape running event in Remscheid, Germany, held annually on the last Sunday of October since 2001. Its primary race is a 63.3 km ultramarathon, precisely one and a half marathon distances, with a marathon and a half marathon also offered. The event caters to various participants: shorter races range from 400 meters to 10 km near the Hackenberg Sports Center, with Nordic walking and walking categories available from the half marathon distance upwards. A 13.3 km Nordic walking race and a relay, dividing the ultramarathon into three half-marathon legs, are also part of the program. Over 4,000 athletes typically participate. Most longer routes utilize the Röntgenweg, a looped trail encircling Remscheid. Participants begin at the Hackenberg Sports Center, complete a brief loop through Lennep’s historic town center, and then proceed counter-clockwise along the Röntgenweg. Half marathoners conclude their race in Clemenshammer, marathoners commence there and return to Hackenberg, and ultramarathoners finish the entire loop. The course involves significant elevation changes: approximately 850 meters of ascent and descent for the ultra, and the marathon features close to 1,000 meters of climbing. Hackenberg serves as the central hub, featuring award ceremonies, side events, food vendors, and spectators congregating in and around the sports hall. The event also includes the German Marathon Championship for Doctors and, every five years, a 100 km race.

3. Die Bergischen 5 Etappe 5

Die Bergischen 5 Stage 5 is a 45 km trail and landscape run starting and finishing in Wermelskirchen, Germany, in the Bergisches Land region. It is the fifth stage of the Die Bergischen 5 stage race, a five-stage ultra series, but runners can also book this stage individually. The course is one lap with 1,015 meters of climbing, making it a hilly long trail day rather than a flat road ultra. The time limit is set at 12 minutes per kilometer, indicating an event designed for steady endurance running and hiking over rolling terrain. Conibeta GmbH organizes the race, with Thomas Steinicke listed as the contact person.

About cycling & running in Remscheid

Remscheid Base Miles

Running: Locals run Remscheid with ordentlich Höhenmetern in the legs and a bit of Kopf in the pacing. Stadtpark works for easy laps, Lennep gives a good town-centre start, and Brückenpark Müngsten pulls runners toward the Wupper when the legs want scenery. VFB Marathon Remscheid, VfL 07 Lennep, CVJM Dhünn, and the wider Stadtsportbund Remscheid scene keep the club side serious. Röntgenlauf is the anchor event, and its ultra option goes to 63.3 km. Remscheider City-Lauf, Lenneper Osterlauf, Bergischer 6-Stundenlauf, Firmenlauf Remscheid, and Silvesterlauf keep the calendar honest.

Cycling: Locals ride out of Lennep Bahnhof when they want the clean Remscheid loop. The loop is 3 km, climbs 352 m, and uses part of the Balkantrasse before Brückenpark Müngsten and the bridge views. The longer version is 102 km, adds 534 m of gain, and follows former railway cycle paths for one third of its route. Brodtberg tops the city at 378 m, and Goldenberg keeps the climbing mood nearby. Adler Gravelride is the name to know when the local legs want gravel instead of a crit.

Season: Spring and autumn suit base miles, intervals, and long Z2 days because the Bergisches Land hills stay useful without feeling heavy. June brings the Mittsommernachtslauf CVJM Dhünn, so summer has that late-light race feel and enough warmth for Stadtpark laps, Wupper runs, and relaxed railway-path riding. The city centre stays practical in summer, and locals still climb toward Brodtberg when the legs need work. Winter changes the rhythm, and Silvesterlauf on December 31 gives runners a clean year-end target. Cyclists lean harder on steady gravel, railway paths, and careful hill loops when the weather turns.
