The Lions Monopteros Lauf München begins and ends at the Chinese Tower in Munich’s English Garden. Runners depart in the morning for a relaxed charity run, not a timed competition. Since 2004, the event has maintained a low-pressure atmosphere with no official timing or start numbers; participants run at a training pace or as they feel comfortable. Runners receive a “Monopteroslauf” bib, and the route is marked with kilometer signs, course marshals, and refreshment stations.
The course consists of loops within the English Garden. Options include a short 5 km route to Seehaus and a longer loop to Aumeister, which can be combined for distances of 10, 14, 19, 28, or 33 km. The event typically hosts a few hundred participants, including runners and handbikers. Lions Club Munich Alt-Schwabing organizes the run, with entry fees and donations benefiting disabled sports clubs in Munich, such as blind and wheelchair sports. A start number lottery is held, despite the run not being a competitive event.
