About this race

The Carrera de la Mujer takes place in Bogotá's Parque Simón Bolívar, with the start and finish lines located within the park. This annual event, exclusively for women, has been held since 2007. It features a 10 km race alongside shorter recreational runs for those preferring less distance. Bogotá's high altitude presents a greater challenge than a typical 10K on flat terrain, a factor acknowledged by the IAAF and some past winners. The primary race distance is currently 10 km, although it was previously contested over 12 km for several years before reverting to the shorter course. The event draws a substantial number of participants for a women's race, exceeding 17,000 in one instance. While Colombian runners have secured the most victories, athletes from Ethiopia and Kenya have also won the event. Yolanda Fernández and Angie Orjuela hold the record for the most wins with three titles each, and Fernández also recorded the fastest official time at 32:16.
