About this race
Cursa de la Cordera d'Albesa is a local running event in Albesa, Lleida province, with origins dating to at least 1590. The primary race covers approximately 10 km, though some sources cite 10.4 km. The current schedule also includes a 5 km run, a 5 km walk, and children's races. It takes place in late summer and is presented as Catalonia's oldest race, with documentation supporting this assertion.
The race originated as a run honoring Saint Roch, initially starting and ending at the saint's hermitage. Today, it functions as a village sports festival alongside a road race, accommodating local runners, walkers, families, and children. Albesa has also promoted La Cordera with a 24-hour challenge where local runner Norbert Llobera aimed to complete the 10 km course 20 times. Participants could join for segments of the run or walk the route before a shared sausage meal.
