Sky Gran Canaria is a trail running series held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain, typically in mid-October. The event offers distances from a short 6.6 km vertical race to longer mountain routes of 21 km, 35 km, and 50 km, catering to runners seeking a challenging uphill effort and those desiring a full day on island trails. The 6.6 km SKY A6 Vertical covers 947 m of elevation gain on a point-to-point course. The 21 km SKY AA21 is a loop with 740 m of gain and 1 ITRA point. The 35 km SKY TPT 35, also a loop, features 2,736 m of gain and 2 ITRA points. The 50 km SKY TAA50 is the longest distance, with 2,660 m of climbing, 2 ITRA points, and distinct start and finish points. The series is also UTMB Index qualifying, relevant for runners accumulating necessary results.
Guguy Trail Entrecorrales Tasartico is a non-competitive trail running event held in La Aldea de San Nicolás, located in the Las Palmas province of Gran Canaria. It is scheduled for June, but the exact race date is still pending confirmation. Runners have the option to request notification once the schedule is finalized. The event features two trail distances: 25 km and 11 km. Both are designated as non-competitive, meaning the focus is on finishing the mountain routes rather than competing for the top positions, even though results and classifications are still recorded for the event.
Running: Locals run Parque Romano when they want structure, because the 1 km land-and-grass loop has marks, exercise machines, and digital clocks for intervals. Parque Romano gets busy because practically all the runners in the city train here, and many personal trainers have settled there with outdoor groups. Las Canteras gives you the softer coastal mood, and the La Puntilla to El Atlante viewpoint route runs about 10 km round trip with night lighting. El Confital adds dirt roads and a path back to Las Canteras. Avenida Marítima gives Z2 runners 20 km round trip from La Laja beach to Real Club Náutico. Gran Canaria Marathon and LPA Night RUN anchor the calendar.
Cycling: Locals ride out of Las Palmas when they want proper climbing, because the roads rise fast toward Teror, San Mateo, Arucas, Valleseco, and Pico de las Nieves. The first loop is 3 km and climbs 1,305 m, so it works well for base miles with bite. The second loop is 3 km and climbs 4,371 m, so that is the big day. The combined route is 6 km with 2,902 m of ascent. The brief gives no cycling club name, so riders lean on groups, routes, and Isleta Bike as the anchor event.
Season: March and December are the best months, because the island gives you warm air without the heavy summer edge. Summer stays dry and warm, with normal days around 21-24°C and nights around 16-18°C, while August and September usually push 28-30°C by day and stay above 22°C at night. Locals move runs earlier, keep Las Canteras and Avenida Marítima for lit evening work, and save harder climbs for the right window. Winter still feels friendly, because January sits around 21-22°C by day and around 16°C at night. Trail runners and riders use that season for longer Z2, gran fondo prep, and steady climbing.
