Falling Leaves Lahti - UCI Qualifier Saturday

Falling Leaves Lahti’s Saturday race is a September gravel qualifier in Lahti, Finland, located in the Salpausselkä UNESCO Geopark region. The UCI qualifier features 175 km and 100 km routes, offering riders a long day on remote hardpack gravel, not a short festival spin. It connects to the broader Falling Leaves weekend, which includes Nordic Gravel Series racing, a gravel camp, and the traditional conclusion of the Finnish gravel season. The riding takes place on clean gravel roads through fields, lakes, and forests in Lakeland Finland. Riders can use the weekend as a championship qualifier for the UCI Gravel Worlds and the UEC European Gravel Championships, or consider it a final significant gravel trip before the season concludes. The race package is unusually comprehensive: Thursday and Friday shakeout coffee rides, a post-ride buffet, lake sauna and swim, and the Nordic Gravel Series closing party. Pajulahti sports center provides single and double rooms, and riders can reserve BMC gravel bikes equipped with electronic SRAM drivetrains and 40 mm Panaracer Gravelking tubeless tires.

Falling Leaves Lahti - Nordic Gravel Series Sunday

The Falling Leaves Lahti's Nordic Gravel Series on Sunday is the second race day of a gravel weekend in Lahti, Finland, set in the Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark region during autumn foliage. Participants can select 50, 80, or 145 km routes, with the Sunday event contributing to the Nordic Gravel Series season standings. It follows a Saturday UCI gravel qualifier, making the weekend suitable for those aiming for championship qualification and for participants seeking a shorter or more adaptable Nordic Gravel Series day. The routes traverse hardpack gravel roads in Lakeland Finland, with the scenery of fields, lakes, and forests around Lahti and Salpausselkä defining much of the course. This event also marks the customary conclusion of the Finnish gravel season. Participants can extend their stay with warm-up coffee rides, a supported Gravelking Falling Leaves Gravel Camp, a post-ride buffet, lake sauna and swim, and the NGS season closing party. Lodging is offered at Pajulahti sports center, and cyclists without a bicycle can rent BMC gravel bikes equipped with electronic SRAM drivetrains and 40 mm Panaracer Gravelking tubeless tires.

About cycling & running in Kouvola

Kouvola Base Miles

Running: Locals run the forest edge first, then use the city centre for easy miles. Repovesi Trail, Tykkimäki Trail, and the Käyrälampi trail give Kouvola a proper trail habit. The Käyrälampi trail runs about six kilometres around lake paths, duckboards, bike ways, and Jyräänjoki river crossings. Palomäki has real hills, so uphill running there changes your time and placing. Sudet sits on the local club map, and the anchor race names are Repovesi Trail, Tykkimäki Trail, pm-kilpailut, and Metsä Group Seurakisat. Locals keep Tykkimäki Trail friendly for first trail starts.

Cycling: Locals ride gravel ridges, forest roads, trail bits, and asphalt transfers. Kouvola-Hanko gives the big base-miles target, because the route runs 550 km from Kouvola to Hanko and takes 8-10 days. The first day from Kouvola to Anjala covers 67 km and gains 783 m, so the climbing starts early. The Utti to Kaipiainen section gives 15 km of gravel roads and easy trails in ridge landscapes. Valkeala Cyclocross gives the cyclocross hook, and Falling Leaves Lahti 2026 brings the Nordic Gravel Series and UCI Qualifier angle. Locals use Repovesi, Verla, Käyrälampi, and the Kymijoki outdoor route for steady riding.

Season: Summer gives Kouvola warm training, and the city has been one of Finland's hottest by days over 25°C since 2000. The record high hit 37.2°C on July 28, 2010. Locals ride Z2 early, run intervals before the lake paths fill, and keep Käyrälampi as an easy reset. Winter changes both sports because Kouvola sits inland and gets colder than coastal Finnish cities. Runners move toward tougher footing, Palomäki strength, and trail patience. Cyclists swap gran fondo pace for cyclocross grit, short loops, and steady winter base.
