NUTS | Karhunkierros 2026

NUTS Karhunkierros takes place in late May in Kuusamo, using Ruka Ski Resort as the event hub and the Karhunkierros hiking trail as the primary course. This international trail ultra series offers five distances: 13 km, 34 km, 55 km, 83 km, and 166 km. The event weekend accommodates participants from short trail runners to long mountain-style ultra racers. Over 3,000 runners compete across all distances, with free viewing for spectators. The routes follow the well-known Karhunkierros path, the terrain around Ruka's Pyhävaara, and sections of the Oulanka area. The 166 km race extends from Ruka to the Arctic Circle and returns. The 55 km race begins at Oulanka Visitor Centre, involves approximately 1,494 meters of elevation gain, features two aid stations, and has a 14-hour time limit. The 83 km race is a UTMB Index event with around 2,165 meters of ascent, and the 55 km is a stage in the Trail Tour Finland championship.
