Belle-Ile en Trail - 32 km 2026

About this race

Belle-Ile en Trail takes place every two years on Belle-Ile-en-Mer, an Atlantic island south of Brittany. The 32 km race, La Jean-No, is a trail loop with 509 meters of elevation gain and 539 meters of descent. It is part of a larger island race weekend that includes shorter nature runs and longer coastal options, such as a full island ultra. However, this distance offers a substantial cross-island route without requiring participation in the longest events. La Jean-No begins in Le Palais, proceeds along coastal paths towards Grands Sables, then crosses the island from north to south, reaching the wilder coast before looping back through Bangor to Le Palais. The terrain is not high mountain running, but the consistent ascents, exposed coastal paths, wind, and irregular rhythm make the statistics seem more challenging than they appear. The event embraces its island setting: participants spend the weekend feeling disconnected from the mainland, and local Belle-Ile residents offer support along the course at a race that maintains a personal scale instead of resembling a large road-running event.
