About this race

The Grand Raid du Golfe du Morbihan begins in Vannes, sending participants on a 175 km circuit of the Golfe du Morbihan in Brittany, typically commencing on a June evening. This is the longest event within L'Ultra Marin, which offers distances from 29 km to 175 km. Runners can compete individually or as a four-person relay team. Featuring approximately 1,430 m of elevation gain and a 42-hour time limit, the challenge is primarily one of endurance rather than steepness; recorded finish times can vary from around 16 hours to the maximum allowed. Partway through the course, participants leave the shoreline for a distinctive logistical element: a 15-minute transit via semi-rigid boats across the gulf's opening between Port-Navalo and Locmariaquer. This crossing occurs with the race clock stopped and can take place during day or night, contingent on a runner's speed. The course concludes back at the Vannes port, completing the circuit. The Grand Raid has been a component of L'Ultra Marin since its inception, positioning it as a core part of the event. The race is designed for ultra-trail runners, with the relay format offering teams access to the same route. Participants have the option to accept a medal; declining it results in the organizer making a donation to L'Ultra Marin Horizons, supporting solidarity projects, sports inclusion, and environmental, social, or sporting initiatives.
