About this race

The Trail des Monts de Vaucluse begins at the castle in Saumane-de-Vaucluse, a village within the Vaucluse department of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France. This trail running event takes place in early November on natural paths in the Monts de Vaucluse. The primary race distances are 10.5 km with 450 m of elevation gain, 24 km with 1,400 m of climbing, and a 43 km route with 2,300 m of ascent. The event also offers children’s and junior courses, catering to a range of participants beyond seasoned mountain runners. The 10.5 km race is named La trace du Goupil, or The Fox’s Trace, and the 24 km route is Le sommet des Ânes, The Summit of the Donkeys. Participants navigate trails and single tracks through a protected natural environment. The longer routes feature technical descents, higher elevation sections, and overlooks of the cliff face. The 24 km race, a single loop, attracted over 100 runners in its last edition. Aid stations are provided along the courses. Runners on the longer distances are required to carry water, a survival blanket, a phone, an eco-cup, and a whistle. The event's description, “a trail with Mother Nature,” reflects its focus on rugged paths, ascents, and the hills above Saumane.
