Trail du Gahus, held in late February in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques region of southwest France near the Landes border, is named "owl" in Gascon. This name suits the event's structure, which features a 13 km night trail alongside daytime races. Based in Ramous and Puyoo, the event offers trail running and walking options across various distances. The primary distances are 13 km and 26 km, complemented by an 8 km walk, a 1 km children's race, a 13 km canitrail, and a 2 x 13 km challenge for those wishing to participate in both day and night runs.
The 13 km day trail commences in the early evening, with the night trail following on the same course later. Organizers strive to minimize road running, describing the route as varied and challenging, incorporating more climbs and a less repetitive return in recent years. The finish line is located within the Salle des fetes in Puyoo, allowing spectators to observe finishers while enjoying tapas. Now in its eighth edition, with Yves Capdevielle succeeding Xavier Brethes as president, the event presents itself as a community-focused race with an expanding range of formats, rather than a large commercial trail festival.
