About this race
The Naseby 1645 Road Race is a 16.45-mile road race held at Naseby Village Hall in rural Northamptonshire. It takes place in February, a time when many runners are incorporating longer efforts for spring marathon training. Its distinct distance serves a clear purpose: longer than a half marathon, yet shorter than a full marathon. The race begins and ends at the village hall, employs chip timing, and requires participants to complete the course within four hours, averaging approximately 14 minutes and 35 seconds per mile.
The course is entirely on roads and passes seven Battle of Naseby 1645 memorials and viewpoints, connecting the race closely to the Civil War battlefield scenery surrounding the village. This is not a flat preparation run; the route features 289 metres of total elevation gain. Aid stations are positioned around miles 3, 6, 9, and 13.5, as well as at the finish. Many roads are closed to traffic, and headphones are restricted to bone-conduction models. Runners are advised against parking in Naseby, with a complimentary shuttle service operating from Market Harborough. The event awards trophies to the top three male and female finishers, a unique medal to all participants, free digital race photographs, and generates funds for the Bruce Green Foundation, which aids young people in Northamptonshire facing social inequalities.
