The Sue Ryder Starlight Hike Worth Valley begins at Oxenhope Railway Station in West Yorkshire. Held in October, it is a night-time charity walk, not a competitive race. Participants select either a 5k or 10k route, walking under the stars to raise funds for Sue Ryder’s end-of-life care and grief support. The event centers on remembering loved ones, allowing families, friends, hospice supporters, and local walkers to share the evening at a relaxed pace.
The route crosses the villages of the Worth Valley and may incorporate the grounds of Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, where participants can place a star in memory of someone special. Entertainment and lighting are provided along the route, contributing to a community vigil atmosphere rather than a typical charity trek. The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway supports the event, Stirk Lambert Chartered Accountants sponsors it, and previous editions have attracted over 1,000 participants, with fundraising anticipated to exceed £100,000.
