About this race
The MTC Winter Green Man Ultra is a winter trail ultra following Bristol’s Community Forest Path, offering 45-mile and 30-mile options run anti-clockwise. It is a self-navigated race; runners use GPX files and written directions. The organiser also provides pacers for target finishes between 9 and 12 hours. The winter route is often muddy, making this more of a prepared, kit-carrying day out than a stripped-down road race.
Both distances share the same finish and checkpoint setup, with four staffed checkpoints on the full loop and two on the shorter route. Checkpoints provide water, squash, cola, and snacks. Runners receive hot food at the finish. The race is cup-free, requiring all participants to carry a reusable cup. Mandatory kit is checked and includes navigation tools, a head torch with spare batteries, a whistle, emergency food, a phone, and basic first aid supplies. Finishers get a Green Man technical T-shirt, medal, and signed certificate. Runners completing both the winter and summer 45-mile Green Man events in the same year earn a cumulative GMU buckle based on their combined time.
