About this race
The Mátra bike Challenge is a road cycling mountain marathon in Hungary’s Mátra range, centered on one core concept: ride all the major climbs of the Mátra or the Galya in a single day. It is distinct in Hungary as a road-bike mountain challenge, unlike flatter or rolling sportives. The private version can be ridden from spring until the autumn clock change, using the same route, time limits, and rules as the main race-day format.
The course demands more than strong legs, requiring riders to manage pacing, nutrition, timing, and the sequence of repeated climbs. The fourth ascent is identified by the organisers as the point where the ride becomes a true test. Riders can complete the Private Mátra bike Challenge alone or with companions at a chosen time. An additional private day includes freshly painted arrows, finish lines, direction signs, hazard markings, a volunteer at the Gyöngyös stream turning point, and a surprise at the finish in Galyatető. The event's origins trace back to an early edition featured by Velo.hu.
