Distances

About this race
Monte Caio Trail Running begins in Schia, a mountain village in Tizzano Val Parma, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, with Monte Caio overlooking the Parma Apennines. This competitive trail running event typically occurs in late June, starting at 09:00 from race headquarters at Piazzale No Bocchi. Participants can choose from several distances: a short trail of approximately 12 km, a middle trail of about 21 km, and a long trail of approximately 31 km, in addition to a fourth distance specified by the organizers.
The routes present significant elevation challenges from the outset. The short course covers about 11.9 to 12 km with over 550 m of climbing. The 21 km race is approximately 20.2 km with around 900 m of ascent, and the long race is about 31.8 km with roughly 1,650 m of elevation gain. Organizers characterize the short race as fast and demanding, the 21 km as the traditional historic option, and the long course as suited for experienced runners prepared for a strenuous mountain day. Parmarathon ASD, in conjunction with Associazione Pro Schia - Monte Caio APS, organizes the event, which has evolved from a local trail tradition dating back to 2016.
