About this race
Bettona Crossing is a late-September trail running series held in Bettona, a hill village in Umbria located between Perugia and Assisi. Participants can select from a 50 km main race, a 20 km Shortrail degli Olivi, or a 10 km Sprint. The 50 km race is the challenging mountain option, featuring over 2,100 meters of elevation gain, ITRA certification, Grand Prix IUTA status, and UTMB qualifying points. The 20 km race also presents significant climbing for its distance, with approximately 870 meters of elevation gain, indicating that even the shorter trail is not a flat course.
The routes traverse wild paths surrounding Bettona, combining forest, mountain terrain, and olive grove trails before all distances conclude in the main square. Each race is conducted in a single stage at the runner's discretion, with a time limit and semi-autonomy, requiring participants to manage their resources between aid stations. The 10 km race starts separately at Madonnina dei Cacciatori, with transport provided from Bettona for its restricted field, while the 50 km and 20 km races constitute the primary trail events. The location contributes more than just logistical considerations: Bettona is one of Italy's most beautiful villages, and the event emphasizes the region's blend of sport, nature, art, and spirituality, rather than existing as an isolated competition.
