About this race
GeoGravel Tuscany begins at the Geo Village on the Pratone of Pomarance, in Pisa province, Tuscany, sending riders onto gravel paths through geothermal landscapes. This June gravel cycling event, created by Paolo Bettini, offers short, medium, and long course choices rather than a single set distance. The inaugural event attracted gravel cyclists from across Italy, aligning with its purpose: catering to those seeking challenging gravel rides, regional cuisine, music, and a complete weekend centered on cycling.
The routes traverse the Strade Grigie, or grey roads, within the Metalliferous Hills. The long course spans 245 km with 5,100 m of elevation gain, the medium route covers 90 km with 1,600 m, and the short route is 46 km with 850 m. The most demanding option presents a significant all-day undertaking. The course enters geothermal areas, featuring terrain resembling a moonscape and isolated roads with the organizers as nearly untouched by modern life. Away from the cycling, the GeoFestival includes local music performances, culinary and wine tastings, Goodie Bag distribution at the village, and an "Epic Briefing" led by Bettini, offering guidance for navigating the course.
