About this race

Granfondo Livigno Alé begins in Livigno, situated high in the Italian Alps. Cyclists depart from Aquagranda and the town centre in the early morning. This road cycling granfondo takes place in late June. The long Granfondo route covers 166.8 km with 4,300 m of elevation gain, while the shorter Mediofondo spans 106.8 km and 2,050 m of climbing. Both courses are paved and sufficiently challenging to classify this event primarily as a mountain endurance ride, rather than a swift, flat sportive. The Granfondo course crosses the Rhaetian Alps, connecting significant ascents such as Passo dell’Umbrail, Passo del Foscagno, Passo Eira, and the concluding climb to Mottolino. Participants descend towards Bormio before ascending Foscagno and Eira again, resulting in a day with extended Alpine descents and demanding uphill efforts. The final classification is determined by the cumulative time across timed climbing sections, a safety measure implemented following consultation with Swiss local authorities. The Mediofondo permits e-bike participation, though these riders compete without official ranking.
