About this race
The Granfondo Tre Valli Varesine offers amateur riders the chance to compete on the same Varese roads used for major championship races. This event, a UCI Gran Fondo World Series qualifier, takes place in Varese, Italy, in early October, coinciding with the established Tre Valli Varesine week. Participants can select from 20 km, 101 km, or 127 km routes, catering to a range of cycling abilities from short rides to a full granfondo. The granfondo is scheduled for the Sunday preceding the Tuesday Tre Valli Varesine classic, providing cyclotourists an opportunity to race on the course before the professional event.
The route mirrors that of the Gran Fondo World Championships held in Varese, crossing lakes, hills, mountains, and pre-Alpine villages. Three local lakes are incorporated into the route, within a region that also covers Lago Maggiore, Lago di Lugano, Lago di Como, and Lago di Varese. Varese, a city of approximately 82,000 inhabitants in Lombardy, is situated just 5 km from the Swiss border. Its "citta giardino" moniker accurately reflects the verdant surroundings of the town. The organizing body, Societa Ciclistica Alfredo Binda, was established by Antonio Ambrosetti and three-time world champion Alfredo Binda; its distinctive white-and-red jersey displays "S.C. BINDA - VARESE" on the front.
