About this race

The Marathon du Lac Majeur is a point-to-point road marathon in northern Italy, run in November along Lake Maggiore from Arona to Verbania Pallanza. The full race covers 42.195 km, starts on the Arona lakefront, and has a 5 hour 30 minute limit. It is part of a wider race weekend with a half marathon, a 33 km race, and a 10 km option, catering to various runners. The marathon follows the western shore of Lake Maggiore, passing Meina, Lesa, Belgirate, Stresa, and Baveno before finishing on the lakefront in Verbania Pallanza. Much of the route runs with the lake in view and crosses the Borromean Gulf, with old villas, small fishing ports, and churches along the way. Field sizes are capped, with the marathon limited to 900 runners, while the half marathon allows more entries and the shorter races stay smaller. The race village opens on the Arona lakeside before race day, and the main awards are held at the finish area in Verbania Pallanza.
