The Mondello Cup is a sprint triathlon held in Mondello, Palermo's seaside district. The swim takes place in the gulf, with the remainder of the race crossing the coast and Favorita Park. The standard sprint format consists of a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer cycle, and a 5-kilometer run. Hundreds of amateur athletes participate annually, giving it the atmosphere of a community race weekend rather than an elite-exclusive competition.
Team Asd now directs the event, now in its ninth year. The program includes Aquathlon Kids and Youth races for younger athletes, and the weekend also features the Wings for Life World Run charity event. Local amateur racers are joined by families and tourists, drawn by Mondello’s beach location and the short, accessible race distances.
