About this race
TOR X is a September ultra-trail series held in Courmayeur, Italy’s Aosta Valley. Races begin or end near the town, set against the backdrop of large Alpine massifs. The main event, TOR330 Tor des Géants, is a 330 km mountain circuit with approximately 24,000 m of elevation gain and a 150-hour time limit. The TOR450 Tor des Glaciers extends to 450 km with 32,000 m of climbing, and the TOR130 Tot Dret offers a 130 km point-to-point course from Gressoney to Courmayeur.
The TOR330 crosses Aosta Valley’s High Routes, passing through 34 municipalities, 25 mountain passes over 2,000 m, 30 alpine lakes, Gran Paradiso National Park, and Mont Avic Natural Park. Participants are responsible for their own sleep and rest, utilizing 43 aid stations and six larger support bases situated roughly every 50 km. Live GPS tracking monitors each athlete’s location and speed. The event attracts international participants, but the field is capped, and the completion rate averages around 60%. Weather presents a significant factor, with competitors potentially encountering sun, rain, wind, and snow during a single race. Past events have been halted due to severe mountain weather. A memorial cairn bearing a poem by Yang Yuan marks the location where the Chinese runner tragically died after a fall during the race.
