XXVII^ KV Chiavenna Lagunc

About this race
KV Chiavenna Lagunc is a vertical kilometer race in Chiavenna, Valchiavenna, covering 3.3 kilometers with 1,000 meters of elevation gain. It begins near the church of Loreto and directs participants uphill toward Lagunc along a natural path, with no poles permitted. The race is part of Northern Italy’s mountain running schedule, organized by Amici Madonna della Neve Lagunc. Nicola Del Curto is closely associated with its recent official recognition.
The course utilizes historic mountain trails, including the mule track from Pianazzola, and is known as the “Vertical of Records.” FIDAL and World Athletics certified the route after an engineering assessment, signifying its status beyond a local timed climb; it attracts international vertical runners aiming for quick ascents on a precisely measured course. The event's origins trace back to the Trofeo Amici Madonna della Neve Lagunc, established in 1986, and it inaugurates a Valchiavenna weekend dedicated to mountain running, preceding the Val Bregaglia Trail and associated activities. Recent participants have included Italian uphill world champions Benedetta Broggi and Martina Falchetti, alongside national team members like Vivien Bonzi.
