The courses traverse dirt roads and trails within the Castelnuovo Berardenga area, with the characteristic white roads and country paths contributing to the race's Chianti identity. Non-competitive Ecopasseggiate allow walkers to discover the same landscape at a relaxed pace, and tours of villas, castles, and local sites provide a cultural dimension. The course is situated within Arezzo, winding through the city’s historic streets, cultural sites, and monuments. Marathon de Florence
SAT NOV 28
The Florence Marathon, a 42 km race held annually in late November since 1984, winds through Florence, Italy. It began with 462 participants and evolved into Italy's second-largest marathon, trailing only Rome. The field is primarily Italian, with significant contingents from France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Orlando Pizzolato, a two-time New York Marathon champion, was present at the inaugural event. The marathon subsequently gained enough national recognition to host Italy's championship race. The present course commences at Lungarno Pecori Giraldi and concludes in Piazza Santa Croce. Runners pass through the historic center, including Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, and the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore. A substantial portion of the race follows the Arno River, featuring bridge crossings and extended sections on the river's north bank. The route also extends to Cascine Park, the city's most extensive public park. Earlier iterations presented greater challenges, incorporating more turns, cobblestones, and one instance of a course approximately a kilometer short. However, the contemporary course is designed for a faster, record-eligible marathon.

TUE DEC 8

December weather in San Miniato can be cold, with temperatures near freezing and average precipitation around 40 mm, suggesting a winter road race atmosphere rather than a mild Tuscan experience.

It winds through Pisa, showcasing its blend of art, history, riverfront, and surrounding natural areas. The marathon route extends towards the sea, then returns along the Arno River, concluding beneath the Leaning Tower. The Pisanina follows the marathon course before its turnaround point at 13 km, also finishing at the tower. Additional shorter, Christmas-themed runs are also part of the weekend, including a city run along the Arno and a 4-mile Family Run, broadening the event beyond just the marathon.

All races begin on Piazza Daniele Manin and conclude at the base of the Leaning Tower, making the city's iconic landmark the finish-line setting. About Half Marathon races in Florence

Florence Training Notes

Florence hosts 12 Half Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the Arno when they want flat Z2 and easy bearings. The city centre gives you a short hit, and a roughly 3 mile route runs from Piazza di Santa Maria Novella past Ponte Vecchio, Ponte alle Grazie, the Uffizi, Piazza della Signoria, and Piazza del Duomo. Piazzale Michelangelo gives you the honest work, with those never ending feeling stairs and one dawn loop that ran a little over 4 miles with 233 feet of gain. Runners of Florence - ROF meets every Tuesday at 7:30 PM at YellowSquare Florence for 10 KM. Anchor races include Notturna di San Giovanni, XLII^ ESTRA Firenze Marathon, and 51° 100 Kilometri del Passatore.

Locals ride west through Cascine Park when the legs need easy base miles. The city centre rides fine, but the real work starts on the edges. Giro di Fiesole heads north to a village 10 km from Florence, and Via San Domenico still has that 2013 Worlds feel. Impruneta points you toward the northern part of Chianti, while Giro di San Casciano, Greve in Chianti, Monte Senario Convent, Consuma Pass, and Vallombrosa give you proper climbing days. ASD VeloClub Florence By Bike, ASD Mugello Toscana Bike, Toscana CRIT, Rouleur Cycling Team, Toscana Factory Team, and Badia Cycling Club keep the group scene moving. Anchor rides and races include Chianti Classico Gran Fondo, L’Eroica, Strade Bianche, and 51° 100 Kilometri del Passatore.

April to October gives Florence its best training window. Spring gives runners clean interval nights along the Arno and cyclists steady Z2 through Fiesole, Impruneta, and Chianti. Summer gets hot, and average highs sit around 30°C, so locals go early, ride longer toward Vallombrosa Forest, or use the Cascine Park shade when the plan is easy. Vallombrosa Forest sits 15 degrees cooler than Florence, which makes it a real summer escape. Winter brings cool, damp mornings, and November can still give runs with temperatures in the mid 40s. 5 days drop below freezing, so both runners and riders keep the kit simple and the efforts controlled.
