About this race
The Ikoma Trail Run Summer Mountain takes place in July within the Ikoma mountain range, straddling the Osaka and Nara prefectures. Participants can select between a 27 km or 22 km course. The 27 km race involves an ascent of approximately 975 m, while the 22 km race climbs about 700 m. This summer event is the hot and humid iteration of a race series that also occurs in winter, making heat management as crucial as physical endurance. Both distances have a limit of 400 runners, operate on a first-come, first-served basis for entry, and require participants to be at least 20 years old.
The 27 km race begins at Hoshidaenchi Wanpaku Hiroba and concludes at Takayasuyama Station along the Kintetsu Nishikibi Cable line. The 22 km route finishes at Hiraoka Park’s plum grove. The trails feature a combination of steep stairs, rocky terrain, and root-covered paths, demanding careful foot placement over sustained road-running speed. The time limits are set at 8 hours for the 27 km race and 6 hours for the 22 km race. Volunteers provide support for registration, aid stations, and course direction. The event is organized by the Japan Trail Runner Circuit Association, with Actrep managing race operations.
