Haarlem Base Miles By The Dunes
Haarlem hosts 102 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.
Locals run the Spaarne when they want simple Z2 without thinking too hard. The Spaarne river gives you 5 km or 10 km on asphalt under your shoes. Nationaal Park Zuid-Kennemerland and the Kennemerduinen are the better call when you want small ups and downs in the legs. Bloemendaal aan Zee and Parnassia make beach running feel like a holiday. 023 Runclub meets every Sunday at 9:30 AM in Frederikspark. Tante Trail runs every Saturday at 10:00 AM with 5 or 10 km loops. Urban Trail Haarlem, Grachtenloop Haarlem, and Halve van Haarlem are the local anchor races.
Locals ride from the city centre through dunes, polder, and canal edges when they want base miles with a bit of bite. The loop is 5 km with 552 m elevation. The Spaarne River Loop and Kennemerduinen Path are easy staples. Dasia Racing Team is the Haarlem club name you hear first. HSC de Bataaf gives racers training races and that proper crit feel. The climbs sit around Spaarnwoude and the Kopje van Bloemendaal. The route mix has gravel, cobbles, smooth asphalt, and enough short punches for intervals.
May through September is the good block here. Summer gives daytime highs around 18-24°C, and locals use the coastal breezes and dune paths for steady Z2, evening runs, and long rides after dinner. The beach and Bloemendaal aan Zee feel best when the legs are tired but the head wants space. Winter temperatures often sit around 0-8°C. December daylight can shrink to 7-8 hours, so runners stay closer to the Spaarne, Haarlemmerhout, or Randweg. Cycling has to wait more often, unless the day opens up clean and dry.
