About this race
Duinentrail Schoorl starts and finishes at Laguna Beach in Camperduin, with races running through the dune area around Schoorl, Bergen, Hargen, and Camperduin. It is a trail weekend offering distances from kids races of 800 m and 1,600 m up to a 50 km ultra, plus a 5 km Swim Trail. The routes are mostly offroad: about 95% is on natural ground, with singletrack, sandy paths, and dune climbs presenting the main challenge. Even the shorter trail distances are not flat, with 350 metres of climbing on the 12 km and 450 metres on the 18 km.
The course uses some of the highest dune peaks in the Netherlands, so the race is more about sand, wind, and repeated climbs than smooth pacing. Longer options add more difficulty: the 34 km has 750 metres of climbing, and the 50 km has 900 metres, with aid stations increasing from one on the 18 km to three on the ultra. The 12 km has no aid station, and all runners must bring their own cup or hydration pack because the event does not use disposable cups. Sunday’s shorter distances are aimed at runners trying trail running for the first time, while the long route draws people ready for heavy terrain and a possible sea wind. Entry also helps support management of the Staatsbosbeheer and PWN dune area.
