Gaasterland Trail 2026

The Gaasterland Trail takes runners through the forests and small hills of Gaasterland, near Balk and Harich in southwest Friesland. This autumn trail run offers 10 km, 24 km, and 50 km routes, suitable for those new to trail running and experienced runners seeking a long off-road challenge. The race maintains a straightforward atmosphere: forest air, meadows, narrow paths, and no timing except for the 50 km distance. The course winds through the wooded Gaasterland landscape, featuring old forest, heathland, open areas, and views across one of Friesland’s more varied terrains. The exact route varies annually, offering returning participants new paths and turns. The event operates under the “Support for Nature” principle, focusing on soil and nature protection, minimizing local disturbance, and ensuring event safety. Routes are marked, aid stations offer water and snacks, and first aid is provided.
