About this race
Øyeren Rundt is a 124 km mass-start road cycling race beginning and ending at Rælingen videregående skole in Fjerby, east of Oslo. As a turritt, Norway’s open sportive format, riders over 17 can enter without needing to be part of an elite field. Sportsklubben Rye organizes the race, which operates under Norwegian cycling race and safety regulations.
The route covers national and county roads encircling Øyeren, Norway’s ninth-largest lake, crossing the Akershus and Østfold regions instead of a closed circuit. The distance and road-race format create a lengthy day of group riding where positioning and adherence to rules are important. One previous edition was determined after the initial finisher was disqualified for crossing the center line. The finish can also be close; that same race concluded with a five-rider sprint for the podium, with mere fractions of a second separating the top positions.
