About this race
The Southern Lakes 12/24 Hour Adventure Race is a team navigation race held around Moa Creek in Otago. Teams of two or four receive maps showing checkpoint locations and plot their own routes through the course, with options for 12-hour or 24-hour racing. The 12-hour race is primarily in daylight, while the 24-hour event includes navigation in darkness.
The course crosses a broad, undulating landscape and may include kayaking, rafting, trekking or running, abseiling, and mountain biking. A race guide assists teams in navigating the event, but participants are still required to interpret maps, manage their time, and maintain progress over varied terrain. The specific race hub, start and finish points, and course maps are determined by the organizers for each edition, so teams should consult the event website prior to race weekend.
