About this race
The Edridge Contracting Teetotal Traverse is a spring trail running and walking event held in the Teetotal Flats / Big Bush Conservation Area, bordering Nelson Lakes National Park. Participants can choose from three distances: a 21.1km half marathon, the 13km Big Bush Kākā Challenge, and the 8km Skating Pond Stride run/walk. Both the start and finish are located on Beechnest Drive, a short distance from Alpine Lodge. The longer races are suited for runners experienced with hilly trails, while the 8km option is accessible for beginners, families, and younger participants accompanied by adults.
The routes traverse less-traveled paths through native bush, tussock flats, mānuka stands, and alpine landscapes. The 13km course follows the initial ridge section of the half marathon before diverting onto the Kākā Track and crossing the flats. The 8km course remains on more manageable terrain. Nelson Tasman Community Sport Events and Active4Good are the organizers, with proceeds supporting Active4Good and local organizations such as the MTB Trails Trust and Friends of Rotoiti Trust.
