About this race
The Hunua Ranges place you directly within the largest native forest area, making the Hunua Ranges Trail Run - Auckland Trail Run & Walk Series feel more like a genuine bush excursion than a refined road race. Anticipate single-track, gravel paths, narrow tramping routes, and the damp forest sensation underfoot. The shorter distances cater to beginners, while the longer courses venture into a "Technical forest course with steep climbs" and sufficient rugged terrain to challenge seasoned trail runners.
Underfoot conditions include a blend of open gravel roads, woodland stretches, muddy patches, steep ascents, and sporadic stream crossings. The more demanding courses introduce difficult elevation, technical ground, views from the dam face, exposed sections, and required equipment, indicating this is not a venue for unprepared participants. It is also a cupless event; remember to bring your own reusable cup, bottle, or hydration pack, and clean your shoes prior to entering the park to aid in protecting the kauri trees.
