About this race
At Massey University Recreation Centre, this kids-first mud run has race-day energy without grown-up seriousness. The Palmerston North Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge is a "fun, muddy obstacle race" for school years 3-8, designed so younger runners can tackle it confidently. It feels like a school-field mission that has spilled outdoors: noisy, messy, and pleased with itself.
The course lets kids "crawl, climb, and splash" through a "safe and exciting outdoor course," with waves managing the start. All abilities will be present, from careful first-timers to kids who treat mud like a lane marking. Every finisher receives a medal and downloadable certificate. Prizegiving includes spot prizes and the "Brightest School" award, giving the event a team edge beyond just finishing.
