About this race
Bowenvale Reserve serves as the start for Sugarloaf, the final event in the King & Queen of the Crater series, located on the western Port Hills. This race is for those seeking a substantial hill challenge: a "demanding climb to finish the series," with the course ascending toward the Sugarloaf summit, acknowledging the Port Hills' steepness.
The long course links Bowenvale Valley, summit access trails, Crater Rim, and Huntsbury before returning to the valley, featuring the "greatest elevation gain of the four races." A "shorter, less technical alternative" is available, turning back sooner and descending via Hidden Valley Track. This event attracts runners aiming for a more challenging ascent. Expect an evening centered on the course itself, with the rim trails, the climb, and the descent being the main focus.
