About this race

Big Dog’s Satellite Championships: Team Poland is positioned on the global Backyard Ultra ladder, with national and international ticket races leading to the Individual World Championship at Lazarus Lake’s farm in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. The format is simple: runners start loop after loop until they cannot continue, rewarding patience, stomach management, crew support, pacing, and problem-solving when exhausted. The final field for an ultra world championship is small: 75 runners, comprising 50 national champions from the Team World Championships and 25 from the At-Large list. Poland’s involvement in the series is notably strong, with six Polish runners qualifying for the championship field: Paweł Pszczółkowski, Łukasz Wróbel, Bartosz Fudali, Tomasz Cygański, Sebastian Sikora, and Michał Sitarek. The event can change rapidly: Wróbel, a former world record holder who completed 116 loops, stopped after 17 loops due to stomach issues and severe cramps. Heavy rain required Lazarus Lake to keep runners on the asphalt night course longer than anticipated, with the forest trail course not opening until loop 49. Pszczółkowski completed 61 laps before fatigue set in, while Fudali was disqualified for not crossing the timing mat after a loop, a decision upheld by video review.
