About this race
Challenge Barcelona is a city triathlon centered on Barcelona: the swim takes place in the Mediterranean Sea, the bike course travels through the city, and the run follows the beachfront. The primary Middle Distance race includes 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km on the bike, and a half marathon run. Shorter Standard and Sprint distances are also available, along with a Junior Challenge, aquathlon, and open-water swims. It takes place in autumn, with average temperatures around 22°C for air, 20°C for water, and light winds.
The course routes the race near locations familiar to visitors of Barcelona, moving from the sea to the streets and beach instead of directing athletes to a distant venue. The Middle Distance bike leg has minimal climbing, with 51 m of elevation noted, making the event suitable for fast racing and initial attempts at the distance. The wide selection of race formats attracts experienced triathletes, beginners, juniors, relay teams, and swimmers focused solely on the water segment.
