Chudy Wawrzyniec is a mountain ultramarathon in the Żywiec Beskids of southern Poland, starting in Rajcza and finishing in Ujsoły near the Slovak border. Runners set off in August on a rough trail race with a twist: they do not choose their final distance until around the 40 km mark, where the route splits toward either a 50 km-plus finish or an 80 km-plus day in the mountains.
The course climbs toward places such as Wielka Rycerzowa and Muńcuł, then sends runners down technical descents covered with stones and roots. It is one of Poland’s older ultra races, and part of its reputation comes from how little help runners get: few aid stations, no drop bags, and no outside support. That format attracts people who want a raw mountain race rather than a heavily serviced event.
