Human Vs Horse / Czlowiek Kontra Kon is a trail race in Kolano, Poland's Kashubian Lake District, where runners and horseback riders compete on the same course. The event begins and ends at the Kolano Horse Stud, with local horse breeders and the stud organizing it. The primary race, Puchar Stolema, covers approximately 30 km, and there is also a 10 km Mini Stolema option. This is a recent Polish iteration of the human-versus-horse concept, drawing inspiration from similar events in England, Scotland, New Zealand, and Arizona.
The course crosses Kashubian hills, forest roads, farm tracks, fields, meadows, and small streams, making it more than a simple flat speed challenge. A notable ascent leads up Wiezyca, the highest point in the Kashubian Lake District and the Polish Lowland at 328.7 m. Horses undergo mandatory veterinary inspections: the longer course includes checks midway and at the finish, while the shorter race inspects horses only post-finish. Riders have 20 minutes to present a horse, whose heart rate must not exceed 64 beats per minute. The check time is included in the final result, and a failed inspection leads to disqualification. Awards are given in Open, Women, Men, and Horse categories, with the Puchar Stolema awarded to the first finisher. Relay teams compete separately from the main rankings.
