About this race

Tatarska Piątka is a 5 km cross-country race held in Studzianka, a village in southern Podlasie, Biała County, Łomazy Municipality. The main race coincides with the Meeting with Tatar and Regional Culture, and a winter version is also part of the series. The Association for the Development of Studzianka Village, headed by Łukasz Węda, a runner and regional historian, organizes the event. Children’s races are included, making the event suitable for participants beyond adults focused on a challenging five-kilometer run. The course crosses forest terrain with varied surfaces, featuring a climb near the old Tatar cemetery, the mizar. This cemetery is the most evident remnant of a Tatar community that resided in Studzianka for over 200 years, following a land grant by King Jan III Sobieski to Tatar soldiers for their military service. A small mosque was once active in the village, and local place names like Meczecisko, Janoszówka, Tatarszczyzny, and Jama Czymbaja still reflect this historical presence. Many participants visit the mizar before or after the race. The cultural aspect extends post-race with Tatar cuisine, regional customs, and prizes such as anniversary hats or a sękacz cake for the participant who traveled the longest distance.
