About this race
XTERRA Austria is an off-road triathlon held near Altaussee and Bad Aussee in Austria’s Salzkammergut region. The full-distance race follows the XTERRA format: a 1.5 km swim, a 34 km mountain-bike leg, and an 11 km trail run, designed for athletes who prefer terrain over pavement. It is part of XTERRA’s EMEA Tour and takes place in the summer, with recent race data indicating warm air temperatures and cooler water.
The swim is the opening discipline, followed by the bike course and then the run, making bike handling and trail running skills as crucial as raw triathlon speed. The full-distance field typically consists of a few hundred athletes, with available results showing a majority of male participants. The event also offers shorter distances: sprint, super sprint, and relay categories, catering to a wider range of participants. Recent results highlight close competition at the front, with the winner finishing in under three hours and the second and third-place athletes separated by only a few minutes.
