About this race
The XTERRA Tahiti Triathlon begins at the Jardins du CRIOBE and Fare Natura area in Opunohu Valley on Moorea, French Polynesia. This off-road triathlon, typically held in November, features open-water swimming, mountain biking, and trail running, diverging from traditional road formats. The full course covers 1.5 km swimming, 34 km mountain biking, and a 10 km run, with the challenging terrain being as significant a factor as the distance.
The race commences following an early boat transfer to Moorea. Athletes then enter the water, preceding a mountain bike segment that includes approximately 1,000 meters of climbing. The concluding 10 km run crosses jungle trails, incorporating an additional 340 meters of elevation gain. International and local triathletes compete in the main M-format event for a chance to qualify for the XTERRA World Championships. The event's broader program also offers a super sprint, a sprint relay, and a kids' duathlon for participants aged 6 to 11. VSOP Club organizes the event, attracting some of Polynesia's top off-road triathletes.
