About this race
The Semi-Marathon de Braga begins on Av. João Paulo II in Braga, Portugal’s Minho region, situated between Porto and the Spanish border. The event offers participants three options: a 21 km half marathon for experienced runners, the quicker Super 5 km, and a non-competitive 6 km walk. The half marathon has a 3-hour time limit, accommodating both those aiming for a strong performance and individuals preferring a more relaxed finish.
The course winds through Braga’s historic streets, connecting the race to one of Portugal’s oldest cities, with over 2,000 years of history. Braga is known as the Portuguese Rome because of its numerous churches. Participants can visit sites such as the Sé de Braga, Portugal’s oldest cathedral, the Jardim de Santa Bárbara, Avenida da Liberdade, and the Bom Jesus do Monte sanctuary, notable for its extensive staircases, around race weekend. The event attracts runners globally and from various age groups, with the local francesinha sandwich serving as a popular post-race reward for finishers.
