Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly
10K de Castro Urdiales
The 10K de Castro Urdiales is a 10-kilometre road race held in Castro Urdiales, organized by Club Correcastro. Runners begin at Parque Amestoy in the morning. The event attracts over 500 athletes, and the competition at the front can be intense. In one past edition, four men reached the halfway point together, with the winner decided in the final kilometre.
The course is exposed to the elements, and heat and strong south winds have impacted runners in previous races. A tradition involves inviting a well-known athlete as the event patron; double world marathon champion Abel Anton served in this capacity and received a trophy from Club Correcastro president Jose Mari Uncilla. Olympic medalist Jose Manuel Abascal was the announcer. Andoni Acebedo won the race, breaking away with one kilometre remaining to finish in 31:56, closely followed by Rodrigo Senovilla in 31:58 and Diego Pascual in 32:03.
Bilbao Night Running Fest
The Bilbao Night Running Fest guides participants through Bilbao after dark, beginning at San Mamés and concluding at the Guggenheim. The event features two options: a 21K half marathon and the 10K Pirate Race, catering to those seeking a substantial city run or a brief evening challenge.
The course follows a city circuit on major avenues, differing from a secluded out-and-back path. Pyrotechnics, live entertainment, and numerous onlookers contribute to a festive atmosphere, distinct from typical road races. The city's football stadium and art museum define the course's start and end points.
Mutriku Herri Krosa
Mutriku Herri Krosa is a 10 km road race starting and finishing in Mutriku, a coastal town in the Basque Country. The route heads out along the coast towards Deba and returns the same way. Runners encounter the climbs and descents twice, in reverse order. The initial section involves a climb before descending into Deba, and the return leg requires runners to ascend what they previously ran downhill.
The race has been held 21 times, attracting a small local field instead of a large mass start. In the reported edition, 65 runners were classified: 59 men and 6 women. Participation from women and from Bizkaia was lower than in previous years. Triathlete Iker Ormaetxea won the men's race, followed by Julen Etxebarria and Mikel Agirrebeña. Nahia Ibarzabal finished first among the women, with Onintza Zeberio and Nora Etxeberria in second and third places.
Txara Trail
Txara Trail is a mountain running event in Markina-Xemein, Bizkaia, offering two race distances: a 17.7 km “mountain half marathon” and the 10.5 km Txaramotx run. The longer race involves 1,150 m of climbing, making it much steeper than its distance suggests; the 10.5 km option includes 600 m of ascent. The longer race starts in the morning, followed shortly by the shorter race. Walkers begin earlier on the same 10.5 km and 17.7 km routes.
The event is part of the Bizkaia running calendar, attracting trail runners in the Basque Country seeking a challenging day in the hills around Markina-Xemein. The event also accommodates non-runners through walking options on the same two distances. Prizes are locally focused: winners receive a Basque cap and baskets of local products, with cash awards for the top finishers in the longer race and local-product baskets for the first local finishers. Practical arrangements include parking, showers, and announced route adjustments near the start and finish areas.
Antxintxika Lasterketa
The Antxintxika Lasterketa is a 10 km road race held between Soraluze and Bergara in Gipuzkoa. The route is advertised as 10 kilometers but is not officially homologated. It typically takes place in early November with a 17:00 start, functioning as a popular local race rather than an elite-only event. Many runners use it as a final test a week before the B/SS race, particularly athletes and everyday runners from the Alto Deba region.
The course begins in Soraluze town center, descending to a wide paved bidegorri (bike path). This path follows a green route towards Osintxu, crossing the Deba River via a bridge. After a brief road segment, it rejoins the bidegorri for a mostly flat run with minor undulations. The course reaches the lower section of Bergara around the 7 km mark. From there, a corridor of spectators guides runners into the city center finish, providing more crowd energy to the final stretch than the quieter bike path.
Recent participation has seen fields in the low hundreds, with classified runner totals around 294 and 367.
La Conquista de la Almendra
La Conquista de la Almendra is a solidarity road race in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava, offering 5K and 10K distances. The course follows the perimeter of the city’s old quarter, shaped like an almond, which inspired the race's name. This event takes place in autumn, welcoming recreational runners alongside competitive club athletes.
The race incorporates the old city as a central theme, with participants crossing a route connected to Vitoria-Gasteiz’s medieval past. Founded in 1181, the city's history is intentionally referenced by the event. Official race details are provided in multiple languages, including Spanish, English, Catalan, Euskera, and Galego, reflecting an effort to attract participants from various linguistic backgrounds.
Vitoria Night Run
Vitoria Night Run is a night running event held in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava. Participants can choose between 10 km and 5 km distances. Both races are described as non-competitive, focusing on participation rather than official placings.
Giroa Veolia organizes the event. The race website refers to it as a "carrerón," a Spanish term for a significant race. Information for the upcoming edition is still being released. Runners can sign up for notifications when the date is confirmed. The event pages will provide access to results, classifications, streaming, and contact details after the race is completed.
Bilboko Herri Krosa
Bilboko Herri Krosa is a 10-kilometre popular run through Bilbao, founded on the idea that participation is as important as speed. Approximately 10,000 people participate annually, with a field comprising sports enthusiasts of various ages, not solely dedicated racers.
The course is moderate, utilizing the city’s main thoroughfares, making the race suitable for runners of widely differing experience levels. Its most notable tradition involves honoring the first and last finishers equally, fostering a relaxed, community-oriented atmosphere.
Azkoitiko Herri Lasterketa
Azkoitiko Herri Lasterketa is a 10K race held in Azkoitia, Basque Country, connected to the San Andrés feast in late November. It typically takes place on the final Saturday of November, frequently the day before the San Sebastián Marathon, establishing its position in the local end-of-season road-racing schedule.
The race follows a two-lap urban-industrial course. Participants report it as fast, well-organized, and competitive. While the route is not officially certified, times recorded are generally fast enough that homologation would enhance the results' utility. Previous participants also note energetic crowd support along the route, indicating it is more than just a fast 10K on paper; it's a local event with genuine street atmosphere.
Etxebarri Xtreme
Etxebarri Xtreme is a trail-running series in Bizkaia featuring a 30K race, a 10K race, a canicross event, and a martxa walk. It uses off-road routes, providing separate paths for runners, walkers, and dog-and-runner teams within the same event.
The 30K is the main challenge, with the 10K offering a shorter race on similar terrain. The canicross race distinguishes the series from typical trail events, and the martxa allows participation for those seeking the mountain-route experience without competitive racing. The organizers describe the routes as spectacular, focusing on atmosphere and event coordination.
Gabonetako Krosa
Gabonetako Krosa is a 5 km race held annually in Irún as the year concludes. Organized by Super Amara Bidasoa Atletiko Taldea, its purpose is to encourage activity before the year ends. The primary race begins on Paseo Colón, crossing the city's downtown streets. It features general men's and women's categories, alongside a team-based Carrera por Cuadri category.
The event also hosts children's races in the Luis Mariano vicinity, welcoming participants as young as one year old. Runners have the option to contribute any amount to the race's designated charity. All participants are entered into a prize drawing, with awards presented on the Luis Mariano pedestrian stage following the races.
