Maratón de Estepona Jardin de la Costa del Sol
SUN OCT 11
The Maratón de Estepona Jardin de la Costa del Sol is a 42 km road marathon held in Estepona, located on Spain's Costa del Sol in the province of Málaga. It is scheduled for early October, with the Estepona Athletics Stadium on Avenida Juan Carlos I designated as the race venue. This event establishes Estepona's own marathon and contributes another long-distance race to the Málaga running schedule. The race highlights Estepona's coastal location and its appeal for sports tourism. The city features Mediterranean coastline, over 320 days of sunshine annually, and is situated less than an hour from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport. Local authorities position the marathon as a component of Estepona's strategy to connect tourism, sport, and quality of life, suggesting the event targets visiting runners alongside local athletes.
Chamizo Trail
SAT OCT 17
Chamizo Trail is a mountain-running series held in Villanueva del Rosario, inland from Malaga, at the base of the Sierra de los Camarolos and El Jobo. The main daytime event features three challenging trail routes: a 42 km marathon with approximately 2,500 m of elevation gain, a 23 km route with 1,250 to 1,300 m of climbing, and a 14 km race with about 600 m of ascent. Additionally, there is a night race, Chamizo Trail Nocturno, organized by the Villanueva del Rosario town council, covering 18 km with roughly 950 m of positive elevation gain. The routes traverse the Alto Guadalhorce mountains, passing through springs and upland areas within the Villanueva del Rosario and Antequera municipalities. The night race begins at the central Plaza de Andalucia, mandates headlamp use for all participants, and sets a four-hour completion limit. Aid stations are positioned at approximately kilometers 3, 11, and 16, with an additional station after the finish. Judges from the Andalusian Mountaineering Federation oversee the event. Approximately 350 runners from Malaga province participate in the nocturnal race, and the Chamizo Trail series is considered the municipality's premier sporting occasion.
Maratón Málaga 2026
SUN NOV 8
The Maratón Málaga begins at Paseo del Parque, directly before Málaga City Hall. The half marathon departs from this same location at the same time. This is a 42.195 km road marathon held in Málaga, Andalusia, during November. The course is officially homologated, with each kilometer marked, and adheres to WA and RFEA road-racing regulations. It is also listed on the AIMS calendar. The event is open to participants aged 18 or older on race day. Age categories range from Sub 20 and Sub 23, covering senior and master classifications, up to those over 70. Bib collection is scheduled at the Expo Maratón, located in Terminal B of the Port of Málaga, near La Farola. Participants must present their registration confirmation and official identification. During the race, the bib must remain visible on the front of the torso and must not be altered.
Eco Maratón de La Donaira
SAT NOV 21
At La Donaira, runners may encounter free-roaming Lusitano horses on trails between Montecorto and El Gastor in Cádiz. The Eco Maratón de La Donaira is a November trail event offering a 25 km run, a 15 km run, and a hiking option for those who wish to traverse the route without competing. The course navigates old olive groves, passes ancient oak trees, follows ridgelines with expansive views, and crosses areas where farm and wild animals might be present. The event emphasizes La Donaira’s environmental commitments: 10% of entry fees support local environmental projects, plastic consumption is minimized, and medals and trophies are crafted from recycled and natural materials. While it can be raced intensely, the event also welcomes walkers, guests, families, and friends who are drawn to the location as much as the competition.
CxM Tiñosa
SAT NOV 21
The CxM Tiñosa is a mountain-running series based in Priego de Córdoba, located in the south of Córdoba province. Organized by Club Deportivo Umax Trail, it takes place in November and provides three race options: an 11 km trail race with approximately 400 meters of elevation gain, alongside longer 24 km and 42 km distances. The event is sanctioned by the Andalusian mountain federation and is listed on the Córdoba running calendar as a widely attended race, not exclusively for elite athletes. Runners begin at the Paseo de la Fuente del Rey before entering the Sierras Subbéticas Geopark, a region with hills formed from ancient seabeds. The shorter race offers a manageable mountain course for less experienced trail runners, while the marathon distance serves experienced runners seeking a challenging day. This race is now in its twelfth edition, possessing sufficient local history to feel established while retaining its character as a club-organized, town-based event.
Generali Maratón de Málaga
SUN DEC 13

About Marathon races in Málaga

Málaga Training Notes

Málaga hosts 6 Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run Málaga like a coastal playground, with flat base miles on Paseo Maritimo and sharper trail days above town. Parque Del Guadalhorce gives runners a circa 8 km flat mix of road and trail, with 122 hectares, 5 man-made lakes, and the Guadalhorce river around it. Centro to Baños del Carmen gives a 7 km flat road trot from La Farola. The route runs 7 km with sea views. Monte San Anton gives a circa 4 km trail route with steep inclines and declines. Malaga Running Group meets Wednesdays at 19:00 at the Glass Cube in Muelle 1. Maratón Málaga 2026, Generali Maratón de Málaga, Ponle Freno Málaga 10k, and San Anton Night Trail anchor the calendar.

Locals ride out of the city centre and hit proper terrain fast. El Puerto del León sits ten minutes north of Málaga city centre and gives a 16 km climb at 5.5%, so it works for Z2, intervals, or a clean warm-up before bigger loops. Montes de Málaga brings the gravel, singletrack, climbs, and fast descents north of town. The N-340 runs east through El Rincón de la Victoria, Torre del Mar, Maro, Nerja, and Almuñecar for flatter coastal spins. The El Torcal loop reaches around 100 km and gains 2,000 m of elevation. Eat Sleep Cycle Cycling Hub and Málaga Bike Hire keep the bike crowd sorted. Desafío Málaga and Subida a la Reina sit on the anchor-event list.

Málaga gives runners and cyclists a long season, with around 300 days of sunshine and mild winter training when much of Europe is hiding indoors. Summer brings hot days with very little rainfall, so locals start early, keep the Z2 honest, and save hard work for cooler slots. The sea breeze can make summer to early autumn feel more humid, and apparent temperature can run higher than the number on the forecast. Winter changes the rhythm more than the access, because average daytime maximum temperatures sit around 17°C and most of the year’s rainfall lands then. The Montes de Málaga block cold northern winds, so both sports still roll year-round.
