Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

Papertown Trail Races
SAT OCT 10
The Papertown Trail Races begin at 9:00 AM at Chestnut Mountain Nature Park in Canton, North Carolina. Participants can choose between 10K and 14K trail routes. Every mile is on unpaved trail, ensuring a true dirt-underfoot race. The course begins at 2,369 feet and ascends to a high point of 3,017 feet, presenting a distinct mountain-park challenge on maintained paths. This is the race's second year, organized by Glory Hound Events, which is returning to Canton for another trail event. With no prize money and modest entry fees, the day is structured as a community trail event for regular runners.
Bear Country 10k & 5k
SAT NOV 14
Asheville Hot Chocolate Races
SAT JAN 23
The Asheville Hot Chocolate Races begin and end at Isaac Dickson Elementary School in Asheville, North Carolina, with all races starting in the morning. The event offers adults and older children a 5K, 10K, or half marathon, while younger children can participate in the Kids 1K Hill Climb or the 100-yard Marshmallow Dash. This event benefits the Isaac Dickson Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization and has been a fixture in Western North Carolina’s winter running calendar since 2008. The course starts downhill, follows the French Broad River greenway through Asheville’s River Arts District for much of its length, and leads runners uphill to the finish. The series began with a 10K and a kids hill climb, later expanding into a more comprehensive family event with shorter children's races and longer adult distances. Participants completing the 5K, 10K, and half marathon receive shirts, custom bibs, and medals; children receive shirts, bibs, and ribbons. All participants receive hot chocolate from French Broad Chocolates, and the top adult finishers are awarded handmade commemorative mugs.
Knock On Wood Trail Run/Hike - 13.1 & 10k
SAT MAY 1
The Knock On Wood Trail Run/Hike is a trail race held at Camp Spearhead within Pleasant Ridge County Park in Marietta, South Carolina. Both half marathon and 10K distances are offered, with races commencing at 8:00 AM. This event is included in the Upstate Race Series and is also playfully known as Knock on Woodstock. Packet pickup begins at 7:00 AM near the main shelter. The half marathon has a 4-hour time limit. The 10K follows a loop course within the park. Half marathon participants will run the same trail-focused course for a longer distance. The race benefits Camp Spearhead, a camp serving children and adults with disabilities. Participants include those running or hiking to support the camp's mission. Awards are presented to the top three overall finishers and age group winners. The first 100 entrants will receive custom race socks.

About 10K races in Asheville

Asheville Training Notes

Asheville hosts 8 10K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the Wilma Dykeman Greenway when they want flat rhythm by the French Broad. The path runs 2 miles, so you can get into a decent flow without too many stops. Bent Creek brings the dirt, and the Hard Times Trail Loop runs 6 miles when Z2 needs shade and quiet. Asheville Runners meets Thursdays at 6:00 PM at Olde London Road with 1, 3, or 6-mile options. Jus' Running, Fleet Feet Asheville Running Club, Highland Brewing Run Club, and Lookout Brewing Running Club keep the week moving. RAD Half Marathon & 10K, Highland Brewing Night Flight, and Asheville Marathon & Half are the anchor races.

Locals ride the Blue Ridge Parkway when they want base miles with real climbing. The Parkway gives scenic routes and plenty of climbs, and Mt. Mitchell turns one ride into a full day. The Folk Art Center can start a Parkway ride where Mt. Mitchell sits 30 miles up and 30 miles back. Elk Mountain gives tired legs a tough shorter climb. Riverside Drive Hwy 251 gives North Asheville to Marshall eleven flat miles alongside the French Broad River. The Parkway climb racks up 3,711 m of gain over 1 km. Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, Asheville On Bikes, Blue Ridge Dirt Skirts, and Pisgah Area SORBA hold the scene together.

Spring and fall are the best months, and locals stack intervals, long runs, gran fondo prep, and cyclocross fitness there. Summer stays warm without the bigger Southeast heat, and July averages 22.4°C. The French Broad River and Davidson River make cold dips feel earned after Parkway miles or Bent Creek singletrack. The city gets 9.4 afternoons a year with highs above 30°C, so locals start early when the workout matters. Winter brings cool mornings, and January averages 3.1°C. Highs stay at or below freezing on 5.5 afternoons, so runners use greenways and road loops while cyclists pick dry windows for BRP, gravel, or mellowdrome spins.
