Waterville Marathon - Full/Half/10K/5K - Running Festival
SUN OCT 4
The Waterville Marathon Running Festival starts and finishes at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine, offering four race options: a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K. The event accommodates various runners, whether they aim for a 26.2-mile marathon, a 13.1-mile half, or a shorter road race. Pine Tree Racing Services provides timing, and the absence of a time limit makes the longer distances accessible for walkers and slower runners. The courses follow Route 104, venturing into the countryside near Waterville, Sidney, and Oakland before returning to Thomas College. Runners may leave personal bottles at the start-area operations tent, and these will be placed on a designated table at water stations. Maine Endurance Sports Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, organizes the event, which is undergoing USATF sanctioning and Boston certification. The festival also links to regional challenge medals, such as Run the Moose, Run the Highlands, and the Vacationland Triple Crown for participants completing specific race combinations.
Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half & Relay
SUN OCT 18
The Mount Desert Island Marathon, Half & Relay is a fall road race weekend on Mount Desert Island in Maine, held each year on the weekend after Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The marathon and team relay start in Bar Harbor, the half marathon starts in Northeast Harbor, and all three races finish in Southwest Harbor, a working lobster fishing community on the quieter side of the island. The route runs with Acadia National Park as its backdrop and passes lakes, mountains, small Maine villages, seaside views, and Somes Sound, the only fjord on the Eastern Seaboard. Runners come for a destination race rather than a flat city speed course, with marathoners, half marathoners, and relay teams sharing the same island finish.

About Half Marathon races in Bangor

Bangor Training Notes

Bangor hosts 4 Half Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run Bangor Waterfront Park when they want river miles and an easy meetup point. Hayford Park works for sharper days, especially when The Great World Peace 5K puts a flat, fast double loop on the calendar. Bangor City Forest gives the park-heavy feel when base miles need softer edges. The route covers 93 km and climbs 269 m, so it fits steady Z2 or longer intervals. The route covers 69 km and 1 m of gain. Bangor Marathon, Wellspring's 11th Annual 5K Race for Recovery, and St. Joseph Hospital's Commit to Community anchor the year.

Locals ride out of Bangor when they want quiet roads, river edges, and enough climbing to keep the legs honest. Slipping Gears Cycling runs Tuesday MTB at Bangor City Forest from the Kittredge Road entrance at 6:00pm. SGC Thursday Road Ride rolls by 5:30 pm, and SGC Saturday Morning Road Ride leaves from the shop at 8am. The route covers 4 km and climbs 838 m, with terrific climbs and awesome descents. The gravel route runs 8 km with 545 m of climbing. The third gravel route runs 8 km with 163 m near the Penobscot River.

May through September gives Bangor its best training block for both sports. Temps hover around 5°C, so locals stack early runs, evening spins, Z2, and the odd gran fondo-style day before the heat settles in. Summer roads feel made for base miles, and Bangor City Forest keeps singletrack and cyclocross legs in play. Winter changes the math fast. Winter temps drop to 3°C, and the city sees 185 cm of average annual snowfall. Snow depth reaches at least 25 cm on 66 days in an average winter, so runners chase firm footing and cyclists shift toward shorter rides or winter-friendly trails.
