Race to Share the Gospel Around the World

Race to Share the Gospel Around the World is a faith-based race event in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, featuring a chip-timed 5K, a 1-mile fun run/walk, and virtual challenges. The in-person race occurs in May, while the virtual option allows 16 days to complete 13 miles through running, walking, biking, hiking, or swimming. A single registration covers up to three events, enabling participation in person, adding a virtual challenge, or supporting as a Cheerleader, also known as a Prayer Warrior. The event funds The Tide ministry’s efforts to share God’s Word, with this year’s proceeds supporting programming in Thailand and a fundraising target of $15,000. Both the 5K and 1-mile races include lunch, and the Family Fun Day is free. Children aged 6 and under participate in the 5K or 1-mile for free, those aged 7-16 receive a reduced fee, and student ministry sponsors have a lower-cost entry. The top student ministry group receives a pizza party, contributing to the day's church-youth-group atmosphere alongside its race focus.

About cycling & running in Chambersburg

Chambersburg Base Miles

Running: Locals run the borough from the creeks outward, with Conococheague Creek and Falling Spring Creek giving easy town miles before the roads roll toward Caledonia State Park. Chambersburg Road Runners Club keeps the simple line: We run because we can! The first route is 46 km with 91 m of gain, so it works for steady Z2. The second route is 32 km and gains 363 m when you want bite. The Great Appalachian Valley Race, Solstice 5k/10k, Race Against Poverty, Firecracker 5K, and ArtShip 10k give the calendar real anchor events.

Cycling: Franklin County Cyclists make Chambersburg feel like a proper riding town, especially when the route points east and up into Michaux State Forest. The typical route covers 2 km with 484 m of gain through countryside, a small valley, and a mountain side. Biesecker Gap Rd, White Rock Rd, Broad Mountain Rd, Gilbert Rd, and Behind Mont Alto cover the gravel menu. Shearer Rd runs 3 mi, so it is the long pull. Michaux Grvl 2026, Camp Michaux Gravel Grinder, Michaux MTB Marathon, and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Road Race Championships are the big anchors.

Season: Spring and fall are the best months here, because the Cumberland Valley gives you cool starts, clear tempo days, and enough Appalachian edge for honest base miles. Summer brings an average July high around 86°F and a low around 67°F, so locals move intervals early and save longer Z2 for shaded roads near Caledonia State Park or Michaux State Forest. Winter changes the rhythm when January sits around 23°F to 41°F. Runners keep town loops and track work alive, while riders lean into gravel windows, careful road miles, and whatever singletrack or cyclocross legs the freeze allows.
